Captain Michael Kehrle, Commanding Officer of the Training and Professional Standards Division, is a 24 year veteran of the Upper Darby Police Department. He joined the ranks in 1996 after graduating valedictorian from the Montgomery County Municipal Police Academy. In 2003 Michael was promoted to Sergeant, then to Lieutenant in 2008. Michael was promoted to Captain in 2019.
Captain Kehrle spent his entire career in the Patrol Division. During his time in the Patrol Division, Captain Kehrle was assigned to the Police Mountain Bike Unit, the Police Honor Guard, the Highway Patrol Unit, and the SWAT Team. Captain Kehrle has also completed the training required to be an Accident Reconstructionist, a Use of Force Instructor, and a Taser Instructor.
Early in his career Captain Kehrle got involved in Use of Force Training for current and new officers. Since 1998 he has been instructing officers in the proper use of force and tactics and has attended many courses and seminars about self defense, proper decision making during critical incidents, active shooter response, and police tactics.
