Superintendent Michael Chitwood's Bio

The chief reads to local school childrenSuperintendent Mike Chitwood began his career in law enforcement over forty years ago.   He initially served with the Philadelphia Police Department as a patrol officer, highway patrol officer, and then a detective in the prestigious Homicide Division. 

In 1983, Mike was named Chief of Police for Middletown Township, PA.   His career then led him to Portland, Maine where he again assumed the role of top cop.  In 2005, Mike returned to the Delaware Valley, as he was named Superintendent of Police of the Upper Darby Township Police Department.

Mike Chitwood’s administrations are distinguished by progressive and model programs in diversity, management, and crime prevention.   He is the recipient of a multitude of awards which recognize him for his community service, leadership, and commitment to public safety.  Mike is a staunch advocate for law-abiding citizens of Upper Darby Township.   He has an unparalleled desire to rid the township of criminal activity, and is known for his vocal public disapproval of those who prey on the innocent.
